Trustees and Volunteers

We are always looking for trustees and volunteers

Wirksworth Pre-school Playgroup is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, known as a CIO. This means the pre-school is run by trustees for the benefit of the children, families and local community.

Trustees are unpaid volunteers. They help make sure the pre-school is well managed, financially responsible, legally compliant and focused on giving children the best possible early years experience.

Trustee support is one of our biggest challenges. Without enough trustees, the pre-school cannot operate safely and legally, and could ultimately have to close. If you think you might be able to help, even if you are not sure what is involved yet, please get in touch for an informal conversation.

You do not need to have worked in childcare to become a trustee. Useful skills include finance, admin, HR, marketing, fundraising, buildings, IT, governance, recruitment, events or simply local knowledge and a willingness to help.

Being a trustee or volunteer can be rewarding and a good way to support an important local setting. It can also help people develop skills in areas such as management, marketing, recruitment, finance and community fundraising.

What trustees help with

  • Keeping the pre-school financially healthy.
  • Supporting policies, governance and legal duties.
  • Helping with recruitment, buildings and long-term planning.
  • Making sure decisions stay focused on children and families.

What volunteers can do

  • Help with fundraising, events and community stalls.
  • Share practical skills such as admin, IT, design or maintenance.
  • Support projects that improve the building or outdoor spaces.
  • Offer local knowledge, contacts and a willingness to pitch in.

Help shape the future

Support decisions that help the pre-school run well.

Use your skills

Finance, HR, admin, fundraising, IT, buildings and marketing skills are all useful.

Support local families

Help protect and improve an important community pre-school.

Interested in becoming a trustee or volunteer?

This is the biggest practical challenge facing the pre-school. We would be very happy to talk through what is involved, answer questions and help you decide whether you could support us. There is no pressure to commit before you understand the role.
